Reports have just come in that a Syrian ship, the Sina, has been highjacked off the southern coast of Somalia. The ship was bound for Kenya, carrying bulk containers of fruits and grains, when it was bordered by ten males riding in on two separate boats. The owner of the Sina, SyrTrans, has already begun negotiations with the pirates, who have asked for upwards of three million dollars for its release. “We just want a peaceful resolution to the standoff, and have been assured that the crew remains unharmed and in good health,” commented a SyrTrans representative. The Syrian Government has had no comment at this time.
